JDM ECU OBD2 Wiring - 1jz VVTI & 2jz VVTI & Beams!!!

While working on the wiring for @Dookies_Majestic we encountered a need for not only custom gauges but also checking the ECU for check engine codes. The ECU we had from a JZX110/JZS171 was newer than 1996, so we knew it had an option for OBD2 but what we didn't realize was that not many people travel down this road and are stuck using jumping the TC pin in the diagnostic connector to ground so it will flash a check engine light to read codes, WHY? Vehicles manufactured for the Japan specifically did not adhere to the standard OBD2 protocols that other countries had set for standards, for the longest time you had to use Toyota Techstream dealership compatible scanner to read the OBD2. As time went on more modern cars in Japan went away from their own standard and to a complatible standard that regular OBD2 readers and understand. BUT what about those 1jz VVTI, 2jz VVTI and Beams motors we all love?

THE SOLUTION after many hours of searching and translating foreign websites, is quite simple with the use of $5 Torque PRO app for Android, along with a specialized app config string, and a $15 ELM327 OBD2 Adapter off of amazon. NOW if you already have a harness with and ODB2 plug then you should be all set to proceed. But if you don't have one we sourced ours out of a 2000ish Toyota Corolla at the junk yard, but any ODB2 port from a Toyota should work. *If you are having a custom harness made I suggest you ask the builder to include this ODB2 port and also connect the TC pin to it and include a hookup for a check engine light. As most custom custom harness do not include a diagnostic port, this will give you an option of both ODB2 and the old school flash a check engine light.

Here is a link to our Youtube video of how we hooked it all up.

Torque PRO- Inside of the app It will have you create a vehicle profile if it is your first car setup. In the vehicle profile at the bottom of the profile page is a line that says Very Advanced ELM327. There is a line in that section to add text. The following text should be added to that line: ATIB 96 \n ATIIA 13 \n ATSH8213F0 \n ATSP4 \n 0100

There is an alternative text we found that you can try if the top does not work.

ATSP4\nATIB96\nATIIA13\nATSH8113F0\nATSW00\n

Plenty of videos and info on how to use the app so we will not discuss here.

Bellow is the wiring diagrams needed.

The above info should work on other Toyota Models as well!
